Tesla China's official website has recently launched booking for made-in-China Model Y, and production of the pre-ordered cars will start in 2021 at the earliest.

Two models of Model Y are now available for pre-order, with starting prices of 488,000 yuan (about 70,600 U.S. dollars) and 535,000 yuan respectively, said the company, adding that the current booking price is only an estimate and the actual price is subject to the final announcement.

On Jan. 7, the U.S. electric carmaker announced the launch of a project to manufacture Model Y vehicles in the Shanghai gigafactory, its first overseas plant outside the United States.

Tesla officially delivered the first batch of made-in-China Model 3 sedans to the public earlier this year.
