Inactivated vaccines and test kits for COVID-19 are showcased at the public health exhibition zone of the 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), which opened Friday in Beijing.

As the rampant pandemic still threatens the world, countermeasures to fight COVID-19 are a major highlight of the exhibition zone.

According to Zheng Jinpu, an official with the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, the public health and epidemic prevention special exhibition area is located in the China National Convention Center, covering an area of about 836 square meters.

A total of 105 enterprises have been invited to hold online and offline exhibitions. The number of offline exhibitors totals 60. Among them, 13 are the world's leading companies from eight countries.

CoronaVac, the vaccine candidate from Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech, is shown at the exhibition. Yin Weidong, the company's chairman, president and CEO, revealed that the vaccine is currently undergoing phase III clinical trials in many countries.

Zhang Yuntao, vice president of China National Biotec Group, affiliated to Sinopharm, said it holds online and offline synchronized exhibitions, displaying products such as nucleic acid molecular detection reagents and COVID-19 inactivated vaccines.

He discussed how China National Biotec Group is actively developing vaccines. Also, after the COVID-19 vaccine production workshops of the two subordinate research institutes begin operating, they will ensure that a total annual production capacity of the COVID-19 vaccines will reach 220 million doses.

Coyote Bioscience Beijing also showcases a quick nucleic acid test system able to produce results in half an hour.

In addition, as China's traditional medicine has played an important part in COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control, there are more than 40 traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) enterprises and institutions with exhibition booths at the CIFTIS, including outstanding herbal medicines, smart medical system and the joint consultation mechanism.

With the theme of "Health Safety for Everyone," the exhibition area includes sections of "World Anti-pandemic Cooperation," "China Anti-pandemic Story," and "Chinese Medicine Anti-pandemic" to highlight the experience, products, methods and equipment emerging from the fight against COVID-19. There will also be a public health forum to explore international cooperation and build a platform for participants to share ways of fighting the pandemic.

Besides the public health exhibition zone, there are other zones at the comprehensive exhibition area showcasing services provided by enterprises from 12 sectors, such as winter sports, information services, transportation education, tourism and culture, as well as a prelude exhibition area, and special international and domestic zones.

As one of the world's largest comprehensive events of its type, the China International Fair for Trade in Services, held under the theme "Global Services, Shared Prosperity" in Beijing from Sept. 4-9, will also stage four summit forums, 134 industrial sector-based forums and negotiations, 29 national and regional themed events, 18 provincial, district and municipal themed events, and five evening activities.

Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Bingnan said at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday that it has been China's first major international economic and trade event since the COVID-19 outbreak. It would showcase the remarkable achievements of China's epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, demonstrating China's confidence and determination to promote opening up, and provide a positive signal of China's adherence to economic globalization and strengthening international economic and trade cooperation.
