China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) held an online open-day event on the Central Business District (CBD) project in Egypt's new administrative capital on Sept. 3. The event showcases the construction progress of a series of landmark buildings.

CSCEC has been in business in Egypt for 36 years, and has constructed many of the country's landmark buildings, such as the Cairo International Conference Centre, the Suez Investment and Service Building, and the Egyptian Free Language School.

The CBD contract was signed in 2016 by CSCEC and the country's Ministry of Housing, Utilities & Urban Communities. With a total area of 505,000 square meters, the project consists of 20 buildings, including 12 high-rise office buildings, five high-rise apartment buildings, two luxury hotels, and a 385.8-meter-tall iconic tower, which will be the tallest in Africa.

Waleed Ramadan, technical engineer of the project, said that CSCEC had immediately taken preventive measures since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in January. This has ensured the orderly operation of construction works, whilst effectively protecting the safety of its staff and contractors.

Civil Engineer Mohamed Nagar introduced the "building machine" used for the iconic tower. This self-developed technology can finish building one floor in five days when operating at its full capacity. The tower, with 80 floors in total, has been built to its 40th floor so far.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly once underscored that the CBD project shall be built as glorious as the ancient pyramids. CSCEC is not only working toward the establishment of a future city in Egypt, but also the deepening of China-Egypt friendship.
