A new production line of the 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) project will be set up in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, Boeing China announced Thursday.

It is the second production line of the 737-800BCF project under the joint efforts of Boeing and Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd. (GAMECO), said the company.

The project, scheduled to start operation in 2021, will cater to the surging demands for freighters, according to the company.

GAMECO and Boeing started building the first 737-800BCF production line in 2019, and the project went into operation in June this year.

GAMECO is a joint venture between China Southern Airlines Co., Ltd. and Hutchison Whampoa (China) Ltd. from Hong Kong. It specializes in aircraft and airborne component maintenance, repair and overhaul.

Boeing's 737-800BCF project is in operation exclusively in China, with production lines established in Shanghai, Jinan and Guangzhou. To date, the project has received 132 orders from around the world.
