23rd China Beijing International High-Tech Expo kicks off

The 23rd China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) kicked off in Beijing on Thursday. The expo will last through Sept. 20.

As part of the ongoing ZGC Forum, the CHITEC shares the forum's theme "Cooperate to Make Innovations and Meet Challenges with Common Efforts" and comprises comprehensive activities, exhibitions, business talks, forums, and online exhibitions.

In an area of 30,000 square meters in the China International Exhibition Center, the expo's exhibition area consists of 12 thematic exhibition zones. The expo will hold nine promotional events, two meetings, and a series of themed activities. 

Eleven international organizations, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations, as well as more than 800 tech firms from home and abroad are participating in the expo.

The expo will showcase cutting-edge technologies and the latest technological achievements in the fields of 5G communication, industrial interconnection, intelligent connected vehicles, biological medicine, artificial intelligence, and cyber security.

A special exhibition area has been set up at this year's expo to focus on anti-COVID-19 equipment and devices, such as automatic nucleic acid detection and analysis system, portable ultrasonic instrument, online diagnosis and treatment system, and intelligent disinfecting robot. Visitors can also learn about the latest progress made in vaccines and drugs. 

The expo will also highlight Beijing's efforts to build itself into a national innovation center through developing its sophisticated industries.

The CHITEC serves as an important platform for China to carry out international exchange and cooperation on science and trade. A total of 1,165 overseas delegations from more than 100 countries and regions participated in the previous expos, involving 37,704 domestic and foreign institutions and enterprises, and producing 5,617 contracts, agreements and intentions worth a total of 1.04 trillion yuan (US$154 billion). The previous expos received 5.68 million visitors, and held 1,070 forums and promotional events.
