Changan Mazda, a joint venture between Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. and Mazda Motor, will recall 29,134 vehicles due to defective fuel pumps, according to the country's top quality watchdog.

The recall, set to begin on Oct. 30, involves 26,444 Mazda3 Axela models manufactured between Sept. 13, 2018 and Aug. 30, 2019, and 2,690 CX-8 models manufactured between Oct. 14, 2018 and May 15, 2020, according to a statement on the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation.

Defective parts in the fuel pumps of the vehicles to be recalled may lead to difficulties with ignition and sudden engine failure, posing safety risks.

Changan Mazda has promised to replace the faulty components free of charge.
