China saw a total of 97 million domestic tourist trips made on Thursday, the first day of an eight-day national holiday, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The figure was 73.8 percent of the trips made during the same period last year, according to the ministry.

Tourism revenue reached 76.65 billion yuan (about 11.26 billion U.S. dollars), a recovery of 68.9 percent of the revenue gained in the same period in 2019, the ministry said.

China celebrates its National Day on Oct. 1. This year the week-long holiday is extended to Oct. 8 as the Mid-Autumn Festival also falls on Oct. 1.
