A number of technological achievements in Beijing were showcased during the 2020 National Mass Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week held from Oct. 15 to 21.

This year, the Beijing section of the Innovation Week set up a pandemic prevention-themed venue, which presented over 30 new projects that demonstrated the city's rapid response, quick collaboration, and strong supportive capacity on combating COVID-19.

Beijing took its exhibitions online for the first time this year. The online platform of the event and cloud exhibition venues are continuing to open to the public after the Innovation Week ended.

In 2019, Beijing's scientific innovations contributed to more than 60% of the city's economic growth, according to an official of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform. The city takes a leading role in integrating resources and industrial chains to build a mechanism that supports innovation, entrepreneurship and creation. And 163 of the world top 500 companies have set up branches in the Chinese capital, said the official.

The city plans to expand collaborative efforts on innovation across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, hoping to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievement and accelerate the gathering of resources for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Data shows that the innovation index in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region reached 162.99 last year, up 4.72 from the previous year. Zhongguancun's companies have set up over 8,000 branches in Tianjin and Hebei.

Beijing is set to take a greater initiative to build a national demonstration zone for further opening up the service industry and the Beijing Pilot Free Trade Zone, said the official of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.

Beijing will continue to optimize its business environment, facilitate coordinated technological development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and unleash the driving forces of innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity throughout the society, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.
