Northwest China's Gansu Province had built 8,100 5G base stations as of the end of October, local authorities said Friday.

According to the province's plan for accelerating the construction of 5G infrastructure released in May this year, more than 30,000 5G base stations will be built in Gansu by the end of 2022.

The province will step up its efforts on improving 5G networks in places such as enterprises, hospitals, schools and major scenic spots.

Urban areas of all prefecture-level cities of Gansu are already covered by 5G signals, said Zhang Lei with the Gansu branch of China Mobile.

Zhang added that 5G-powered unmanned mining trucks have been put into operation in the province. Through the 5G network, drilling machines and mining trucks can be operated remotely.

According to Li Peigen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5G will be more widely used in the manufacturing field in the future.
