Strive for innovations and technology solutions for patients

"Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the trend of technology has played an even more important role. Whether it's the I·Hospital or the smart pharmacy the company is working on, these technology solutions will help provide patients with better access to better healthcare," he said.

The technologies and solutions developed in China can also be exported to benefit the world. For example, in the cardiovascular field, a 12-lead ECG platform was developed in China to help patients avoid a heart attack. Patients can even take it home, so that after their surgery, patients can bring the device with them and wear it any time they feel uncomfortable.

"This company is based in China and is working with some key opinion leaders. We hope this device can be used across China. If it is successful, we can bring this product to the international market," the executive introduced.

This year, AstraZeneca's booth at the 3rd CIIE is showcasing the latest innovative offerings from multiple resident companies in its I·Campus, including Teddy Lab Services, MiDIVI, LinkDoc, Liangzhun, Omron Healthcare, CHIC Health, Sanomics, UST, Tricog, and HCmed Innovations. Highlights include the Holographic Thoracic Surgery Navigation System (VR Glass) and Simulated Mobile Screening Vehicle for Five Diseases and Five Cancers.

To accelerate scientific innovation in China, AstraZeneca continues to invest in and build up an R&D platform dedicated to the Chinese market. Currently, AstraZeneca is promoting the development of 10 original medicines.

Lai revealed, "Last year at the CIIE, we were thrilled that we signed a cooperation with FibroGen on Roxadustat, a drug for treating chronic kidney disease. Up until now, Roxadustat has helped more than 100,000 patients. We think it is a great example of China leading the world, in terms of early discovery, early approval of medicine, and also bringing the drugs first to Chinese patients."
