China's domestic mobile shipments up 28.6% in July

China's domestic mobile shipments witnessed a 28.6 percent increase year-on-year, reaching 28.68 million units in July, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

5G mobile phones are the main driver of the market increase with shipments of 22.83 million, accounting for 79.6 percent of total shipments in July.

Over the first seven months of this year, total shipments of the domestic mobile market were 202.8 million, up 15.6 percent year-on-year.

5G mobile phone shipments grew 94.3 percent to reach 151 million units, accounting for 74.3 percent of total shipments in the same period.

Shipments of 5G phones in China surged 100.9 percent year-on-year to 128 million units in the first half of 2021.

By the end of July, the total shipment of domestic 5G mobile phones reached a cumulative 327 million units.

Local brands were the mainstay of the domestic mobile market, with shipments increasing 24.9 percent to reach 25.9 million, accounting for 90.3 percent of total shipments in July.

Smartphones have developed very quickly in the Chinese market, with shipments up 30.6 percent year-on-year, reaching 27.8 million in July, accounting for 96.8 percent of total shipments in the month.

In the past seven months, smart shipments went up 16.8 percent on a yearly basis to hit 198.7 million, representing 98 percent of total shipments.

About 196 new smartphone models were released in the same period, accounting for 82 percent of the total number of new models, according to the China Mobile Phone Market Report published by CAICT.
