The 2021 World 5G Convention, previously postponed because of the epidemic, opens today in Yizhuang in southern Beijing.

The first World 5G Convention, held two years ago, ushered in China's 5G development. With the accelerating pace in 5G construction and industrial development across the country, this year's convention is themed "5G+By all for all," and is focused on the integration of 5G with other industries.

In June 2019, China officially issued licenses for the launch of commercial 5G networks in the country. Its three top telecommunications operators - China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom - were granted licenses for 5G commercial deployment. These marked the country's next step in jumping on the global trend of harnessing 5G technology.

Nowadays, more than 100 operators worldwide have launched 5G network services, and the number of 5G users in China has exceeded 400 million.

As the world's first international event in the field of 5G, the World 5G Convention has boosted 5G in its construction, applications, and integrated development and has become an important platform to promote the development of the global 5G industry and innovation in application scenarios.

According to the organizing committee, more than 1,500 industry experts and business leaders from 20 countries and 13 academicians will participate in the conference online and offline. They will discuss the future development of 5G based on keywords such as "industries," "economy," and "innovation."

Participants will include Zhao Houlin, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) secretary-general, Don Tapscott, known as the father of the digital economy, and Detlef Zühlke, the spiritual father of the smart factory and Industry 4.0 ideas, among others. Wu Hequan, Zhang Boli, Lu Jianhua, and other well-known academicians and experts will also give speeches at this conference.

The convention this year will be composed of forums, exhibitions, and 5G application design competitions. Eight of the 11 themed forums will focus on 5G implementation, including 5G+industrial internet, 5G+carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, 5G+healthcare and health, 5G+smart education, 5G+new audio-visual, and 5G+smart Winter Olympics, etc.

In addition, during the conference, ten major 5G application cases will be launched to showcase the significant boost 5G has provided across various industries.

The exhibition, to be held at Beijing Etrong International Exhibition & Convention Center, will be open to the public from Sept. 1-2. The 20,000-square-meter exhibition hall will present information about the technological progress and product innovation of the entire 5G industry chain.
