Foreign trade in China's Heilongjiang up 22.3% in first 8 months

China's Heilongjiang Province saw its foreign trade grow by 22.3 percent year on year to reach 127.7 billion yuan (about 19.8 billion U.S. dollars) in the first eight months of this year, according to local customs authorities.

Over the period, the province's imports rose by 24.2 percent to 100.1 billion yuan. Exports amounted to 27.64 billion yuan, up 15.9 percent year on year, said the Harbin Customs in the provincial capital.

The total trade value between Heilongjiang Province and Russia was 82.62 billion yuan in the first eight months, an increase of 25.6 percent year on year, accounting for 64.7 percent of the total. The province's trade with countries along the Belt and Road reached 83.12 billion yuan, up 24.6 percent year on year.

Imports of key commodities in the province such as natural gas, timber and soybeans all registered robust growth. In particular, imports of natural gas surged by 172.9 percent to reach 6.54 billion cubic meters during the period.
