In the past five years, the State Power Investment Corporation’s photovoltaic installed capacity has increased by six times, to more than 35 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world for five consecutive years while also becoming the world’s largest new energy power generation enterprise, according to the SPIC.

The company said that by 2025 it will have built a world-class photovoltaic industry with the largest installed capacity in the world complete with leading core technologies, and that it will represent a comprehensive competitive edge as well as a gold standard for sustainability, and further consolidate the supply capacity of green energy, striving to increase the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation to more than 80 million kW.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2120), China's photovoltaic product manufacturing scale consistently expanded, and its output in 2020 reached 396,000 tonnes, a growth of 140% from 165,000 tonnes in 2015, accounting for 76% of global totals. Among the world’s top 10 polysilicon manufacturing enterprises, seven are from China. Likewise, all of the world’s top 10 silicon wafer enterprises are Chinese companies.

"China ranks first in market size, technological level, manufacturing and enterprise strength," Wang Bohua, honorary president of China Photovoltaic Industry Association, said at a forum.

He said that the photovoltaic power generation application market is also growing rapidly. By the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period, China's photovoltaic power generation reached 924.4 billion kilowatt-hours.

The photovoltaic power generation sector will play a pivotal role in the field of new energy, as the country seeks to meet its proposed "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality" goals.

The photovoltaic industrial development in the first half of this year indicates that on the manufacturing end, polysilicon output was 238,000 tonnes, up 16.1% year on year. Meanwhile, on the application end, the installed photovoltaic power generation capacity in the first half of the year was 13.01GW, up 13.1% year on year.
