The cotton industry in China, one of the largest countries first affected by COVID-19, has largely recovered from the epidemic, with the demand for cotton and the number of textile orders beginning to pick up, and this is contributing to global cotton and textile trade, said Wang Jianhong, vice president and secretary general of China Cotton Association (CCA).
Wang attended the International Cotton Association (ICA) Liverpool 2021 and delivered a speech on the development of China's cotton market over the past two years via video link, on Oct. 7, 2021.
He also introduced the process of the "China Cotton" Sustainable Development Project (CCSD) and analyzed the prospects of the cotton market in the next year.
The annual event was suspended last year amid COVID-19, and this year went ahead with both online and offline events. Over 300 representatives in the cotton industry from China, the U.S., Australia, India and Brazil took part in the two-day event, focusing on the sustainable development of the cotton and textile industries across the world.
Over the past two years, the global cotton industry and textile trade were faced with huge challenges amid COVID-19.
The ICA is the world's leading cotton trade association and arbitral body.
