China's capital city Beijing has completed the construction of around 47,000 5G base stations by the end of September, achieving almost full coverage of the ultrafast network across the city, according to data released by the Beijing Communications Administration on Wednesday.
The development of 5G applications is becoming the focus of the 5G industry, said Huang Ping, vice head of the municipal communications administration.
He said the administration will continue to strengthen 5G infrastructure construction, meet the different needs of various sectors, and boost 5G applications in smart logistics, unattended self-storage, smart wearables, and other scenarios.
Also on Wednesday, the Beijing branch of China Telecom and JD Logistics jointly launched China's first 5G-enabled fully-connected smart warehouse, where unmanned vehicles and robots can travel smoothly and categorize and deliver items to designated areas.
The smart warehouse solution is expected to be scaled up across China and introduced to other Asian countries, in order to build a new ecosystem for logistics and storage in the e-commerce industry.
