Beijing's Health Kit app is now enabled with artificial intelligence (AI), meaning that a total of 412 public places and 1,922 residential communities in the city are able to conveniently verify people's health status, according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology.

More specifically, when elderly residents go to supermarkets, hospitals and parks, they no longer need to take out their mobile phones to scan the health code. Instead, their health code status can be verified within a second just by swiping their elderly care or ID cards.

Beijing brought together more than 30 technology companies as they sought to develop and upgrade existing smart terminals. Part of that initiative was adding the card-reading function to elderly care cards, ID cards, and social security cards and other documents so that people can complete their body temperature checks, visitor registration, and health status inquiry by simply swiping their cards. The elderly can use the function after registering on Beijing Health Kit app.

The AI-empowered smart terminal has now been applied to various places frequented by older populations such as hospitals, parks, supermarkets and residential communities. At present, an average of 1.5 million people present their health codes by swiping cards on daily basis.

At more than 20 parks across the city, such as Temple of Heaven, Temple of Earth and Beijing Zhongshan Park, older patrons no longer have to carry documents or mobile phones and can instead enter the parks with their elderly care cards. Beijing has also deployed smart terminals in nearly 70 public places such as supermarkets and banks.

Likewise, at the entrances of communities with AI-enabled terminals, the elderly can confirm their identity, measure their temperature and verify their health code without having to carry any electronic equipment, effectively making the process of entering and leaving a community much more convenient.
