U.S. retail giant Costco on Wednesday opened a new store in the city of Suzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province, which is the second Costco store on the Chinese mainland.

The store, located in Suzhou New District, has a total area of more than 51,000 square meters on three floors, according to the management committee of the district.

The retail giant opened its first store on the Chinese mainland in 2019 in Shanghai's Minhang District on the west side of the Huangpu River. It announced the start of the construction of its second store in Shanghai in February 2020.

Founded in 1976, Costco has established more than 820 stores worldwide with more than 280,000 employees and 100 million members.
