Chinese dairy giant Yili topped the list of 100 Chinese private firms in terms of readiness to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, according to a new ranking released by a Shanghai-based research institute.

Telecom giant Huawei and property developer Country Garden came in second and third, respectively, in the list compiled by Hurun Research Institute.

The ranking surveyed the top 500 Chinese private companies in 2020 chosen by the institute, with a metric that takes into account the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by all United Nations member states.

Scoring is mainly based on the companies' public information, including financial reports, Corporate Social Responsibility reports, as well as Environmental, Social and Governance reports.

Pharmaceutical firms took up 13 slots -- the biggest chunk -- in the ranking. Internet service providers like Alibaba and Tencent grabbed 10 places, while automakers and property developers both secured 7 slots.

The ranking is expected to encourage more Chinese firms to keep sustainable development in their business vision, the institute said.
