The 2022 World Transport Convention, to be held in Wuhan city, Hubei province from June 13 to 16, will focus on promoting sustainable transport, said Wang Dapeng, deputy secretary general of the China Highway and Transportation Society, during a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

Prominent international experts will be invited to deliver keynote speeches at the event, which will highlight frontier developments in transportation technology the world over.

The event will also feature 280 parallel forums for participants from around the globe to share their insights on a wide variety of themes and disciplines, including policy and planning, construction and operation, intelligent and green transformation, transportation service and integration, transdisciplinary approaches, and outstanding academic papers that will be exhibited during the convention. About 1,700 academic reports will be delivered at the forums.

To broaden the convention's international scope, the number of international experts invited to deliver reports online will be no less than 100.

Germany, a global leader in transportation that has been deepening and expanding transport exchanges and cooperation with China in recent years, has been designated as this year's guest country of honor, marking the first time the event has named a guest country of honor since its inauguration in 2017.

In addition, Hubei has been designated as the guest province of honor, similarly marking a fresh endeavor for the convention to support the economic and social development of the host province.

Exchanges and cooperation among Belt and Road countries will also be promoted during the event, with the Belt and Road International Transport Alliance holding a plenary meeting and a seminar during the convention.

Another highlight of the event will be an expo on transportation technology. With an exhibition area covering 20,000 square meters, the expo will present the world's latest technology and engineering application cases, and specifically, achievements in smart engineering, intelligent management, intelligent manufacturing and new types of systems, equipment, materials and solutions.

Moreover, the 2022 World University Students' Bridge Design Competition will stage its final and awards ceremony during the convention. Designed to enhance the innovative spirit of college students and foster their enthusiasm and potential for bridge design, the event has attracted participation from students both at home and abroad.

The event will also see the release of major achievements and standards in transportation technology, supported with a number of reports produced by think tanks including the China Transportation 2022 report.

Endorsed by the State Council, the event is expected to propel China's efforts to build itself into a country with an advanced transportation system and contribute to the development of sustainable transport in the world.
