The 2022 Global Digital Economy Innovation Competition kicked off in Beijing on April 7, with cutting-edge projects and emerging industries from home and abroad exploring methods to support China's new development paradigm.

According to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, projects from over 30 countries and top domestic cities for innovation will participate either virtually and in person in the event this year.

Participants are expected to provide better solutions for key fields such as new-generation information technology and other digital sectors, including cybersecurity, blockchain, healthcare, culture and sport, low-carbon transformation, consumption, and manufacturing. The final round of the competition will be held in July at the China National Convention Center.

This year's competition will also work to promote industrial alignment and the implementation of digital projects.

Last year, Beijing proposed to build itself into a benchmark city for the global digital economy. The city is now home to about 1,500 artificial intelligence (AI) companies. Official data shows that the added value of the city's digital economy reached 1.44 trillion yuan in 2020, accounting for 40% its GDP.
