Beijing has begun to issue its first batch of e-coupons for green consumption on Monday. Consumers receiving the coupons can enjoy a discount of up to 900 yuan when buying energy-saving home appliances.
The move was launched by the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, with major participants including Chinese retail giant Suning, e-commerce conglomerate JD, and local retailers. Together, they will provide consumers with a range of energy-saving electrical products such as laptops, refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners.
According to the bureau, consumers in the city can get an e-coupon kit every month until the end of September via participating companies' online platforms. The kit contains six coupons worth between 50 yuan and 400 yuan each for discounts on purchases.
In addition to online access, consumers can also get coupons by scanning QR codes at physical stores. Local retailers estimate that tens of thousands of these coupons will be claimed by consumers by the end of this month.
The coupons cover over 20 product categories. As one of the participating companies, JD has cooperated with more than 70 brands - mostly electrical appliance producers - to offer more than 1,800 products online. They all meet the country's energy efficiency standards.
