Beijing launched an online trade fair on Wednesday focusing on trade with South American countries, in a bid to further boost regional economic cooperation.
Many Beijing-based enterprises signed agreements with three major foreign companies from Argentina and Brazil at the fair's opening ceremony. Over 600 enterprises from China and South America attended the event online.
The seven-day online trade fair has attracted many South American countries including Argentina, Brazil, Peru, and Chile. Those countries have set up exhibition areas through online platforms in the fields of medical care, high-tech devices, smart living, fashion, and food and daily goods.
Since the launch of these platforms on April 25, over 500 South American enterprises have actively participated in exhibitions and trade activities.
According to the municipal commerce bureau, Beijing's trade with South America in 2021 exceeded 200 billion yuan (US$29.72 billion), 10% higher than the same period of 2020.
