Beijing announced a series of online activities at a virtual launch ceremony of the country's 32nd National Energy Efficiency Promotion Week on June 13 in a bid to raise public awareness around energy conservation and promote a green lifestyle.

The ceremony was jointly organized by the National Development and Reform Commission and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality.

Five education bases were recommended for primary and secondary school students to learn more about positive changes that energy conservation and carbon reduction activities could bring to daily life and work.

During the week-long promotion, exhibitions on Beijing's energy conservation achievements and energy-saving technologies and practices will be showcased online.

The capital will also issue coupons covering 21 types of commodities to encourage green consumption from June to October. Consumers in Beijing can redeem a total of 1,500 yuan of subsidies per person on individual e-commerce platforms each month.

The city will also promote the initiative online to encourage citizens to cut their use of plastic products, learn how to better sort plastic garbage, and find ways to avoid food waste. Beverage enterprises and associations will launch a promotion to encourage consumers to bring their own cups when purchasing drinks such as coffee and milk tea.

Online lectures on how innovative and green technologies promote energy efficiency in the capital will also be held.
