The World Trade Organization (WTO) announced Wednesday the extension of its 12th Ministerial Conference by one day until Thursday.

WTO members have reached a consensus on some critical issues, with more time needed to deliver results, WTO spokesman Daniel Pruzin said in a press briefing.

Pruzin said, "the hope is that by tomorrow afternoon, we'll have some outcomes to announce."

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Tuesday called on the organization's members to find convergence on the various issues at stake at the conference.

The Ministerial Conference that opened Sunday in Geneva is expected to tackle key issues such as an international agreement on waiving intellectual property rights for COVID-19 vaccines, pandemic response, fishery subsidies, agriculture, food security and WTO reforms and its future work priorities.
