Beijing ranks first in China with 28.9 5G base stations per 10,000 people, according to an announcement at the 2022 Beijing Internet Conference on Thursday.
The city has registered steady growth in the communications sector in 2022. By the end of July, the city had built 63,000 5G base stations, up 11,000 from the end of last year, according to Sun Lixin, an official from the city's communications administration.
Sun said the 5G signal is available in 68% of Beijing's 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Ring roads and 84% of 145 key public areas including hospitals, railway stations, and subway stations.
The city also leads the country in the number of fixed broadband users. By the end of July, three major telecommunications enterprises had provided fixed broadband services to 8.56 million subscribers. The number of gigabit-broadband users amounted to over 1 million, accounting for 12.3% of all broadband users in the Chinese capital.
In the first seven months, Beijing's enterprises above the designated size registered a total internet business revenue of 257.08 billion yuan (US$36.31 billion), up 8.8% year on year. Their total profit was over 10.83 billion yuan, up 25.5% year on year.
