During the seven-day National Day holiday, consumers in Beijing spent more money than last year, according to data from the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau.
Department stores, supermarkets, shopping malls, and e-commerce retailers in the city registered sales revenue of 7.84 billion yuan, an increase of 5.4% year over year, while footfall in the city's 52 key business districts reached 31.92 million, 95.1% of the same period last year.
"Although I didn't travel out of Beijing during the holiday, I had a lot of fun on the city's doorstep," said a Beijing citizen surnamed Liu. During the seven days, trendy markets and cultural activities added to the fun of the holiday.
Indoor and outdoor multi-themed activities in major business districts have greatly encouraged vitality in consumption. Data also shows that during the holiday period, the number of night service consumers increased by 9.1% year over year.
A series of pro-consumption measures, such as giving away shopping vouchers, played a vital role in bolstering the recovery of consumption and unleashing consumers' potential purchasing demand in the city.
In addition, sales of green and energy-saving home appliances such as electric toothbrushes, humidifiers, stoves, tablet computers, and air purifiers on e-commerce platforms increased by 5.4 times, 1.9 times, 60.6%, 56.7%, and 40.4% year over year, respectively.
With a series of favorable policies to boost car sales, key automobile enterprises saw purchases growth by 22.6% during the holiday.
