Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform recently approved the funding application for 10 renewable energy heating projects.
These projects, spanning six districts of Tongzhou, Haidian, Shunyi, Changping, Daxing, and Yanqing, upon completion, will provide energy for the heating and cooling of industrial parks, schools, and residences. They together are estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 40,800 tons per year.
In October this year, Beijing released an action plan for peak carbon dioxide emissions, which made it clear that "adhering to the principle of giving priority to renewable energy heating, Beijing will promote the low-carbon transformation of energy for heating, and replace gas heating with geothermal and renewable water source heat pumps."
The 10 new approved projects will mainly utilize such technologies, with a total heating area of 2.8554 million square meters.
Beijing's municipal government will provide fixed-asset investment for all these 10 projects, and project owners will raise funds for construction independently. After all the projects are completed, the city's geothermal and heat pump heating area will reach 40 million square meters.
