The 25th Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium kicked off online in the two cities on Wednesday.

As a high-end and efficient platform to promote investment between the two cities, this year's symposium consists of a series of activities such as a cooperation summit and thematic exchanges on cooperation.

John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivered a speech at the event. Lee said Hong Kong and Beijing have large room for cooperation, and he hoped that the two cities could further tap into the cooperation between the Beijing Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and enhance the competitiveness of the two cities' service industries, especially the financial sector.

Addressing the symposium, Yin Yong, acting mayor of the Beijing municipal government, said the two cities had achieved fruitful results in economic and trade cooperation over the past 25 years. He said Beijing will deepen cooperation with Hong Kong in cross-border finance and enhance financial market connectivity between the two major financial hubs.

Yin also said that he hoped the two cities to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as the digital economy, international consumer spending as well as investment.
