Beijing launches holiday-themed event to boost consumption

Beijing on Thursday launched a winter solstice-themed campaign in shopping centers across the city to boost consumer spending and drive market vitality.

Launched at Chaoyang Joy City, the campaign is the first pro-consumption event themed on the solar term of the traditional Chinese lunar calendar as shopping hotspots across the city staged various performances, exhibitions, and light shows, while issuing shopping coupons and boost business recovery.

During the campaign, Chaoyang Joy City will introduce various coupons and open the teamLab Massless Beijing, China's largest immersive digital art space. Moreover, a Namito-themed exhibition has also kicked off in the shopping mall and will run through Feb. 8, 2023.

The Lize Paradise Walk in Fengtai district opened a light and music festival to create a lively holiday season atmosphere. Xidan Joy City in Xicheng district opened an art exhibition Tuesday in partnership with video-sharing platform Bilibili to bring unique artistic experience to visitors. The Beijing Daxing JOY BREEZE will launch a lantern show integrating elements in Chinese mythology "Shan Hai Jing" with dynamic light and lantern technology, bringing a feast for the eyes and ears.

During the campaign, the China UnionPay Beijing branch is also working with shopping centers, restaurants, book stores, movie theaters, and other retail vendors to offer coupons to drive consumer spending.
