The Sanlitun shopping area of Beijing's Chaoyang district will undergo redevelopment to enhance the city's nighttime economy, add more commercial buildings, and boost the city's status as an international consumption center.

An urban landscape and transport network compatible with the area's global business environment will be created. Specifically, a 2.5 km-long slow traffic system will be built along Sanlitun Road to connect the area with Beijing's Central Business District (CBD) and nearby cultural tourism clusters along the Liangmahe River. High-tech transport facilities, urban landscape projects, and lighting facilities will also be added to the area.

The project will widen Sanlitun Road and add several tree-lined bicycle lanes in addition to service facilities such as coffee stands.

Urban renewal projects in the area are also in full swing in accordance with Beijing's 14th Five-Year Plan to boost the city's scale of consumption and global presence to a new level.

For example, multiple buildings in Taikoo Li Sanlitun, one of Beijing's most fashionable shopping and lifestyle centers, are undergoing renovations. The main commercial facilities of Beijing Workers' Stadium are expected to finish construction in the first quarter of this year.

Sanlitun, also the city's most vibrant area at night, is home to several foreign embassies and Beijing's first and largest bar community. The area now boasts over 70 bars with diversified business forms and distinct features.

During the New Year's Day holiday this year, its major commercial complex saw a daily passenger flow of over 100,000 people, and its Taikoo Li shopping center received some 397,000 visits.
