The steel construction of the permanent venue of Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing's Haidian district was completed on Wednesday. All construction of the 65,000-square-meter venue will be finished by the end of August.

As the main venue to host Zhonguancun Forum, the newly added building aims to accommodate 2,000 participants and provide conference and catering services. 

Zhonguancun Forum has been successfully convened for 13 years since 2007, becoming a national platform to facilitate global exchanges and cooperation in technological innovation. 

The trefoil-shaped structure adopted a fenceless design with the surrounding natural space, allowing visitors to enjoy the green areas on the roof of the building through a northern ramp.

In a bid to deliver such a specially shaped architecture with smooth lines, the construction team adopted the Building Information Modeling technology to segment the entire steel structure into pieces, chief engineer Zhang Shuai said. Those small pieces of steel were then transformed into components with cambered surfaces and reassembled into one piece, Zhang added.

After three months of work, the construction of the main steel structure of nearly 8,400 metric tons was competed. Following that, the construction of major facilities such as metal curtain wall, louvers, and indoor decoration will start.
