Beijing demonstrated robust consumption potential during the Qingming Festival on Wednesday as the 60 key business districts in the capital reported footfall of 6.83 million, 22.3% higher than the same period last year, according to data released by the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau.

Department stores, supermarkets, shopping malls, franchise stores, and e-commerce retailers in the city registered a total sales revenue of 1.34 billion yuan, up by 6.1% year on year, and 63.7% from 2019.

In the Qingming Festival, Beijing's Wangfujing street in Dongcheng district was very busy, especially restaurants on both sides of the street. During dinner hours, the dining area inside Beijing APM Shopping Mall was bustling with crowds.

During the holiday, the Qianmen Avenue was also very crowded, with many visitors coming to taste the food from time-honored brands. The tea-flavored ice cream from Wuyutai, a Beijing-based tea brand, and mutton shashlik of the Donglaishun, a long-standing Muslim restaurant, are among the most popular snacks. Seasonal food options such as the spring tea and sweet green rice ball were also very popular.

Universal Beijing Resort unveiled "Honor of Kings Heroes Live," among a series of all-new themed entertainment experiences. Beijing Garden Expo Park launched themed activities such as flower tours and camping. Data from travel website Ctrip.com shows that Beijing is among popular destinations for long-distance travel in China, with accommodation bookings ranking among the top three cities.
