Beijing's medical device industry has steadily advanced in recent years, transitioning from "made in Beijing" to "created in Beijing," according to officials from the Beijing Municipal Medical Products Administration at a public education event on national medical device safety on Monday.

In particular, innovative products have emerged in fields like artificial intelligence, medical imaging, surgical robots and polymer biomaterials. Meanwhile, research and development (R&D) in areas like 3D printing and genetic engineering keeps pace with international levels. Two industrial clusters have formed: one in the north, focusing on basic R&D, and another in the south, excelling in high-end manufacturing.

Furthermore, a total of 58 Category III innovative medical devices developed by enterprises in Beijing have been approved by the National Medical Products Administration. Beijing ranks first in the country in terms of the number of approvals received.

Beijing also established two medical device innovation service stations this year in Changping and Yizhuang to streamline the consultation, communication, examination, review and inspection processes for medical device registration in the city. With the existing station in Xicheng, a service chain now spans the southern, northern and central parts of the city.
