The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology on Wednesday unveiled a package of measures to boost the innovation potential of the city's robot industry. The aim is to establish Beijing as a source of robotics innovation, a leader in tech application, and a hub for the high-end robotics sector.

These measures will involve the establishment of a 10-billion-yuan ($1.3 billion) industrial fund to facilitate tech transformation and application, promote mergers and acquisitions, and drive industrial restructuring.

Robotic companies will be encouraged to pool resources to strengthen weak links and address technological challenges through an open competition mechanism. Their focus will be on developing essential components like robotic operating systems, high-efficiency specialized chips, servo motors, and other core technologies related to artificial intelligence and multimodal models.

To encourage the formation of industrial clusters, Beijing will optimize land allocation for industrial activities and build a robotic industry base to attract leading enterprises worldwide. The city will also streamline administrative procedures, offer support for establishing and operating small- and medium-sized enterprises with specialized and sophisticated technologies, and provide government subsidies. Eligible enterprises will receive financial support of up to 30 million yuan based on their contributions to achieving breakthroughs in core technologies and key fields.

Furthermore, Beijing will enhance services related to the listing process of robotics companies. It plans to introduce express listing application services through the Beijing Stock Exchange, and offer loan interest subsidies for micro-, small- and medium-sized companies.

In addition, the city plans to introduce more effective policies for cultivating and drawing robotics talent. According to the document, Beijing will carry out tailored talent policies for highly-skilled talents and engineers needed for robotics companies and establish engineering schools within local universities.
