The Cyberspace Administration of China has taken action against Tencent, a major Chinese tech company, for hosting a substantial amount of illegal content, including explicit material, on its "Little World" section of the Tencent QQ platform. The move comes as part of China's ongoing efforts to ensure a safer online environment for minors and protect their legal rights.

The "Little World" section on Tencent QQ, a popular mobile social networking application, had been inundated with explicit content. Additionally, concerns arose about users in the comments section luring minors into unhealthy relationships, engaging in sexual solicitation, and recruiting minors for questionable online gaming companionships. These actions not only raised serious concerns about the well-being of minors but also violated Article 80 of the Law on the Protection of Minors, according to a statement from the administration.

Consequently, Tencent has faced administrative penalties, including a 30-day suspension of information updates on the "Little World" section, confiscation of illegal profits, and a fine of 1 million yuan.

The Cyberspace Administration of China has expressed its commitment to addressing the serious violations of minors' legal rights and their physical and mental well-being.

Tencent QQ, in response to the penalties, expressed its sincere acceptance of the decision and pledged to fully implement it. The company has embarked on a comprehensive rectification campaign for QQ's "Little World" and other related sections, aligning with the directives of the Internet Information Office. This effort includes technological upgrades, enhancements to platform reporting and inspection processes, and other measures aimed at strengthening the platform's community governance and combating inappropriate and harmful content more effectively.
