As China's first city to have officially proposed building high-tech and cutting-edge industries, Beijing has nurtured two trillion-yuan-level industrial clusters in new-generation information technology and scientific services, as well as five hundred-billion-yuan-level industrial clusters in healthcare and other sectors, according to Beijing Daily.
High-tech and cutting-edge industries refer to those with attributes of "high-level, precision, and cutting-edge," capable of meeting the strategic functions of the capital city and the requirements of constructing a modern economic system.
Since 2014, Beijing has made significant progress in coordinating the relocation of non-capital functions and constructing high-tech and cutting-edge industry economic structure.
According to a report released on Thursday, the innovation ecosystem index for high-tech and cutting-edge industries in Beijing has climbed from 0.8868 in 2016 to 0.997 in 2020, paving a strong foundation for the healthy development of these industries.
Looking forward, Jia Pinrong, director of the Research Center for High-quality Development at the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, said Beijing needs to pay special attention to five major trends. These include the advancement of cutting-edge technologies, the cultivation of new productive forces, the enhancement of overall productivity, the transition toward green initiatives, and the establishment of a core digital infrastructure. Jia said prioritizing these five key trends will further bolster the development of high-tech and cutting-edge industries in the city.
