Themed "finance empowers sustainable innovation, investment advances inclusive growth", the Chengdu Finance Week opened on Nov. 19 at the Chengdu Hi-technology Industrial Development Zone in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province.

The event, which will last till the end of December, aims to further enhance Chengdu's influence in the Chengdu-Chongqing city cluster, promote the construction of Chengdu into a financial center in the western region of China, and improve financial services along the Belt and Road Initiative through exchanges among experts, researchers, officials and professionals of the financial circle of the world.

Representatives from government departments, financial institutions, financial organizations, and research institutions from Luxembourg, Germany, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Hungary and other countries attended the opening ceremony of the event.

At the opening ceremony of the event, Chengdu announced the launching of a series of new financial institutions in the city, including a cross-border investment and financing digital platform, an exchange Chengdu service center and Chengdu international economic cooperation promotional center.

In recent years, Chengdu has made remarkable achievements in promoting the construction of a financial center in western China. From January to September this year, the added value of Chengdu's financial industry reached 197.4 billion yuan ($27.64 billion), accounting for 12.3% of the city's GDP. In the latest City of London Global Financial Center Index, Chengdu ranks 44th among global financial centers and 6th in China.

Up to now, Chengdu High-technology Industrial Development Zone has gathered nearly 1,500 domestic and foreign financial institutions and established two national-level financial technology business incubators.
