Beijing's Pinggu district, located on the city's eastern outskirts, has led the Chinese capital in GDP growth for the second consecutive year, officials announced at the Pinggu High-Quality Development Conference.
Located approximately 70 kilometers from downtown Beijing, Pinggu demonstrated remarkable economic achievements in 2023. The district reported a regional GDP of 45.16 billion yuan ($6.27 billion), with a growth rate of 9.6%, surpassing the city-wide average and securing the top spot for the second year in a row.
Tang Hailong, secretary of the Communist Party of China Pinggu District Committee, said that the district has embraced a path of high-quality development focused on "high-tech agriculture, high-volume logistics, and modern leisure." He added that the district aims to be at the forefront of rural revitalization and the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.
The district has set ambitious goals in the Pinggu District High-Quality Development Action Plan (2024—2026), targeting advancements in key sectors such as agricultural technology innovation and logistics. Key initiatives include transforming the district into a "World Leisure Valley" and establishing a live broadcasting e-commerce industry zone, with the goal of boosting regional GDP beyond 50 billion yuan by 2026.
