In 2023, Beijing added 335,400 business entities and brought the total to a record-high of 2.56 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 8.27%. The annual increase was also 23.58% higher than newly added business entities in 2022, according to a white paper on the city's business environment released by Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation.
The city has facilitated business entities in registration, application, and various uses of electronic business licenses. In 2023, the city handled 1.21 million business registrations, with 914,300 cases completed online. More than 1.93 million business entities downloaded and used electronic business licenses.
The municipal administration has assisted Haidian, Tongzhou, and Dongcheng districts in piloting the protection of business secrets. A total of 32 enterprises and 13 industrial parks were recognized as demonstration bases for business secrets protection. Law enforcement on price regulation was enhanced, and over 11 million yuan (US$1.53 million) was returned to consumers last year.
The city also intensified efforts to address fee charges. A total of 623 million yuan in fees charged from 20,200 business entities were refunded. Additionally, the city handled 711 unfair competition cases and 510 trademark infringement cases.
