China Southern Power Grid (CSG) pays great attention to fulfilling its responsibilities and missions as a major state-owned enterprise in the energy sector and playing its due role in promoting high-quality development of the industry, said Meng Zhenping, CSG chairman, in a recent exclusive interview with China.org.cn.

CSG will promote the reorganization and integration of scientific research forces, fight for key core technologies, further promote scientific and technological innovation research on new power systems, and produce a number of landmark results, said Meng.

At the same time, the company tries to improve the output and transformation efficiency of innovation results and promote the transfer of technological capabilities to key links in the industry chains.

In addition, CSG also strengthens cooperation with other energy companies and scientific research institutions to jointly carry out technological research and innovative applications to promote the effective utilization and management of energy resources, according to Meng.

In recent years, CSG has vigorously supported the development of new energy industries such as photovoltaics, continued to strengthen power grid construction and transformation, further improved the grid's carrying capacity and intelligence level, accelerated the construction of new energy supporting transmission projects, and provided reliable energy supply for high-quality economic and social development.

CSG has planned a blueprint for strategic emerging industries, which is to strengthen the integration of value chain resources and the construction of platform ecology, expand digital industry clusters, develop energy storage industry clusters, deepen the development of comprehensive energy industry clusters, and enrich the electric vehicle charging and battery replacement industry clusters.

In terms of supporting the rapid development of new energy vehicles, CSG will actively promote the construction of charging infrastructure. It has currently built more than 100,000 charging piles in five southern provinces and regions, and achieved full coverage in towns and villages. In addition, the company has also created an "easy charging" service platform to promote the convenience and interconnection of charging services.

Meng said that as a major SOE in its field located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, CSG has actively integrated into and served the high-quality development of the GBA, basically built a modern power grid in the region, and promoted the construction of new energy systems and new power systems through digital and green collaboration, injecting new momentum into the green development of the GBA.

In addition, the company also actively promotes the construction of pumped storage power stations, new energy storage power stations, etc., which can improve the flexible adjustment capabilities of the power system in the GBA and ensures the energy supply in the region.

Meng noted that at present, CSG's international business covers 14 countries and regions in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Europe, South America and other places. Its business operations cover power infrastructure construction and development, investment and financing, operation management, etc., and its international competitiveness is increasing day by day.

The company has also made unremitting efforts in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative. For example, it promoted Electricite du Laos Transmission Company Limited (EDL-T), the joint venture between CSG and Lao state-run Electricite du Laos (EDL), to be officially put into operation; thanks to CSG's efforts, many breakthroughs have been made in a number of overseas projects such as those related to Peruvian distribution network and Uzbekistan wind power projects, and in the process China's advanced technology and standards were used to boost local development.
