Beijing presented its southern district Beijing E-Town at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2024 on Wednesday, promoting it as a key hub for innovation and investment, particularly in the biopharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

Yu Yingjie, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Beijing Municipal Committee, introduced Beijing E-Town as a vital component of the city's ambition to become an international science and technology innovation center. As the only national-level economic and technological development zone in the Chinese capital, Beijing E-Town stands out as a significant platform for the city's broader development and internationalization strategies.

During the forum's "Invest in E-Town" session, officials unveiled several initiatives aimed at bolstering the district's biopharmaceutical sector. Guo Meng, an official overseeing Beijing E-Town's biopharmaceutical development, announced a substantial 500 million yuan ($70 million) fund dedicated to supporting every stage of pharmaceutical development, from research and clinical trials to commercialization.

Guo also said that as Beijing E-Town seeks to become a leading global center for pharmaceutical manufacturing, it has set a target for the sector to reach over 200 billion yuan by 2025. The district has already attracted more than 4,200 pharmaceutical enterprises, and has become a magnet for renowned scientists and top-tier talent.

Li Bing, a district official, introduced Beijing E-Town's comprehensive incentive programs for talent attraction and retention. These include a multi-billion-yuan fund for industry and talent development, aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurship at various levels.

Beijing E-Town is also committed to creating an inviting environment for international professionals. According to district official Kong Lei, the development zone is a pioneer in the city in building a million-square-meter international talent community and an integrated service center for foreign nationals working in China.

The Boao Forum's Secretary General, Li Baodong, also praised Beijing's economic and policy environment, noting that advancements in digital economy and technology sectors provide a solid foundation for Beijing E-Town's continued growth and innovation in the biopharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
