Rescuers were still searching for four people who were missing with a sunken boat in south China's Guangdong Province Thursday evening, the local government said early Friday.

The four were aboard "Shunfa 38," which was carrying sand to Zhuhai, a city on the boarder of Guangdong Province and Macao, said Qi Miaosheng, an official with the Jiangmen city government.

He said the boat collided with motor vessel "Jinhang 68" in Xijiang, a tributary of the Pearl River, at 6 p.m..

"'Shunfa 38' was badly damaged and capsized," he said. "Of the nine people on board, only five were saved."

Divers used life detectors to search for survivors Thursday night, but had not received signs of life yet, he said.

No serious injuries were reported from the 11 people aboard "Jinhang 68," which was carrying steel from Dalian in the northeastern Liaoning Province to Foshan, a manufacturing city in Guangdong.

Search and rescue continued Friday morning.

Authorities have launched an investigation.
