Counterfeit money crimes are still rampant, yet have become more difficult to detect, and the interpretation has been introduced to clarify ambiguities in legal application of the crime, according to the statement issued by the court.

The Interpretation defines two crimes, "forging fake money" in the image of authentic money, and "transforming authentic money" such as by cutting, scratching, or reprinting authentic money.

The interpretation also makes clear that stitching pieces of authentic and fake money together should be deemed as forging fake money and punished accordingly.

It also clarified crimes such as forging foreign currencies, commemorative coins and similar crimes.

The judicial interpretation is to take effect Nov. 3.
