Six girls, including five primary school students, drown in a pond in central China's Hunan Province Saturday, local authorities said.
The dead included a 16-year-old and five from two primary schools and and were from five families in a village in Zhongshui Town of Jiahe County, the county publicity department said in a statement.
They were found drown at about 4:40 p.m. and their bodies were pulled out of water at 5:30 p.m., it said.
An initial investigation showed the six girls went for a swimming at the pond at noon and their parents began searching for them at 4 p.m. after they did not come back home for a long time.
The county police authorities are investigating the cause of the deaths.
