Zhang Haizhong, the head of Hanshan District in Handan City, north China's Hebei Province, died with fatal knife wounds on July 10, 2011.

The police confirmed it was a suicide, the Beijing News reported.

According to initial police investigation, Zhang cut his throat with a knife after failing to electrocuting himself.

Zhang had suffered from depression and tried to commit suicide twice before, the police found.

Zhang had dinner with some friends on Sunday evening and went to his office afterwards. His body was found in the office the next morning.
