Shanghai Jiaotong University

Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) adopted an "application system" this academic year to enroll students, the China Youth Daily reported.

Under the new system, high school students who win first prize in provincial scientific and technological innovation contests can apply to the university. After passing the interview and special tests, the students become formal candidates for admission, pending their college entrance examination result. Once their scores qualify them for first-tier schools, they will be admitted by the university.

The new system was trialed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. Eighty-two students have been selected to attend the interview and take the special tests from more than 300 initial applicants.
