Construction on the Taiwan Goods Complex, a 1.2-billion-yuan (US$190 million) project kicked off on Wednesday in the city of Kunshan in east China's Jiangsu Province, according to sources with the Kunshan government.
The 250,000-square-km commercial complex will feature Taiwanese goods, a Taiwanese folk culture center and hotels, according to the city government sources.
Guan Aiguo, the Communist Party of China (CPC) chief of Kunshan municipal government, said the government has attached great importance to the project and provided major support for it.
Sun Yin, president of the Taiwan Goods Complex Development Company, said the project, co-founded by Taiwan's Federation of Industry, will become the primary gateway for Taiwanese goods to enter the mainland market and will also create a market for products made by mainland-based Taiwanese enterprises in the Yangtze River delta.
