Nearly 2,000 Taiwanese enterprises have set up businesses or offices in Fuzhou and nearly 3,000 Taiwanese residents live and work in the southeast China city, according to figures released Thursday by the government of Fuzhou.
The figures also showed that nearly 3 million people have come to this capital of Fujian province on exchange programs between Fuzhou and Taiwan.
Fuzhou has provided favorable policies, services and environment for Taiwan investors to start businesses, according to sources with the local government, adding the city has launched pilot programs to employ people from Taiwan and is to start a program to cultivate medical care workers in grassroots units.
The Fuzhou Dermatosis Prevention Hospital hired a Taiwanese resident in 2010, which was the first time an institution of the city had employed a Taiwanese.
And a year later a software professional was selected as deputy director of the management committee of Fuzhou software zone funded by the government.
