The house of Ding Shiying, an old woman famous for providing shelters for straying cats, caught fire last Friday.

An early morning fire turned the Beijing home of an elderly animal lover into a furnace, killing roughly 150 stray cats, Beijing media reported yesterday.

The cats died of suffocation or burns on Friday morning as they had no way of escaping the house.
